Irene Elizabeth Homan, 96, of Liberty, MO, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021, at the Norterre Senior Living and Memory Care.
She was born January 2, 1925, in Pettis County, MO, a daughter of Ernest Thomas and Fay (Gorrell) May. On March 22, 1946, in Kansas City, MO, she married Leo L. Homan who preceded her in death on December 31, 1985.
Irene was a graduate of Smithton High School. She worked for the Pillsbury Company for 30 years as an accounting clerk. In her younger years Irene was a very good seamstress making her own coats and most of her other clothing. She enjoyed going on an Alaskan, Mediterranean and Southern Caribbean cruise. One of the things Irene was most proud of was being baptized at the age of 92.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to both of her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert “Bob” May, Ernest T. May, Jr, and John B. May; one sister, Mary Virginia Smith and a nephew that she helped raise and spoil, Charles N. “Nick” Smith, Jr.
Funeral services for Irene will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia with burial to follow at the Smithton Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Bobby Dale May, Hugo Dennis, Jeffery Smith, Jason McClain and Bryan McClain.
The family requests no flowers but instead memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice.
