J.L. “Chub” Purchase, 85, of Green Ridge, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015, at Windsor Healthcare and Rehab.
He was born December 12, 1929, in Green Ridge, son of John Lewis and Bessie Hollenbeck Purchase. On September 2, 1951, in Green Ridge, he married Betty Jane Ream, who preceded him in death on June 30, 2013.
J.L. worked as a lithographer for Inter-State Studio. He was also a cattleman. He was a member of Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association and the Green Ridge Cemetery Board. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are a daughter, Carrie Eilks (Kevin), of Green Ridge; two sons, Jay L. Purchase (Becky), of Euless, TX, and Joe Purchase (Sharie), of Parker, CO; seven grandchildren, Michelle (Donny), Dawn (Matt), Jacob, Johnna, Jock, Jaynee and Mackenzie; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilfred L. Purchase; and a sister, Zelma Louise Tullock.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastors Randy and Dianna Marcum and Steve Schilb officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the U.S. Marine Corps and VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Heckart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or Green Ridge Presbyterian Church.
