Janice Kay Thomas, 77 of Hughesville, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

She was born on October 7, 1947, in Sedalia, a daughter of Robert and Laura (Mahin) McCurdy. On October 17, 1997, at the First Christian Church in Sedalia she married Kenneth W. Thomas.

Janice dedicated 32 years of her life to serving as a Deaf interpreter for the Sedalia School District 200, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. Her passion for helping others and her unwavering dedication to her work left a legacy of kindness and inclusion.

Beyond her career, Janice found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid knitter and needlepoint artist, spending hours creating beautiful, handcrafted pieces. She also enjoyed playing co-ed softball, embracing the camaraderie and competition of the game. Her love of nature shone through in her flower and vegetable gardens, where she cultivated not only plants but also cherished memories.

Janice was a familiar and friendly face at the Missouri State Fair, where she worked for many years in the youth building, supporting young participants and celebrating their achievements. Above all, she cherished her time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Survivors include one son, Kevin Pahlow (Leslie) of Hughesville; one daughter, Julie Casteel of Sedalia; one brother, Alan McCurdy (Mary) of Hughesville; five grandchildren, Lindsey Pahlow (fiancé, Casey Mullins), Kelsey Jacks (Ari), Alex Pahlow (Montana), Jacob Etter, and Jacey Etter; nine great-grandchildren, Charles, Hunter, Wyatt, Annaliese, Milo, Lennox, Boone, Martin, and Joseph.
