Jay Lynn Bone, 60, of Smithton, MO, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
He was born September 14, 1964, Dodge City, KS, a son of Bryce Barton and Anita Sue (Merritt) Bone. On March 22, 1986, in Dodge City, he married Sherri (DuBose), who survives of the home.
Jay was a 1983 graduate of Dodge City High School. He worked at Broce Broom in Dodge City for many years. In 2015, upon moving to Missouri, he began working for MoDOT.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, carpentry, and having a good time. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Jennifer Bone, of Smithton, and Jason Bone (Katie), of Dodge City; five granddaughters, Jayleigha, Jazaleigh, JayLynn Sue, Jaynie, and Joyce; a brother, Joel Bone (Lori), of Dodge City; and a brother-in-law, Roy Wilson, of Smithton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Janie Leonard, Geneanne Kearney and Jill Merys.
A celebration of Jay’s life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Smithton Community Center, 200 S. Chestnut, Smithton, MO.
Another celebration of life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church, 200 W. Spruce, Dodge City, KS.
Memorial contributions may be given for his grandchildren’s future education, with checks made payable to Sherri Bone.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO.
