Jennie V. Cheffey

Jennie Vie Cheffey, 94, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Rest Haven Convalescent and Retirement Home in Sedalia.

She was born August 2, 1924, in Rogersville, MO, the daughter of Lonnie Harrison Mooney and Annie (Bloomer) Mooney.

On June 23, 1946, in Rogersville, she married Rev. Charles Benjamin Cheffey, who preceded her in death on September 27, 2015.

Mrs. Cheffey served alongside her husband in his pastorates which included the following churches in Missouri: Washburn Circuit, Hume, El Dorado Springs, Pleasant Hill, College Heights in Kansas City, Sedalia First, St. Joseph First, Higginsville Grace, Lamar, Boston Chapel (near Lamar) and Bethany. While Charles was in seminary they also served in Danville and Tilton, Illinois.

Music was a big part of Jennie’s life. She taught piano lessons and public school music. She played cello in the Sedalia Symphony for many years. She enjoyed studying hymns and the stories and poetry behind them. Other hobbies included sewing, embroidery, quilting, handwork, reading, working word search puzzles, and cheering on the Royals.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring lady, who loved the Lord and served Him faithfully.

Surviving are four children: Ruth (Ted) Spayde, of Fayette, MO, Mary (Harry) Lambirth, of Blackduck, MN, John Cheffey, of Oskaloosa, KS, and Mark (Patty) Cheffey, of Palmyra, MO; six grandchildren, Damon (Jessica Henry) Spayde, of Conway, AR, Kirby (Katrina Chavez) Spayde, of Nixa, MO, Mylls (Megan) Cheffey, of Junction City, KS, Samantha (Frank) Rogers, of Raytown, MO, Kalli Cheffey, of Parkville, MO, and Ben Cheffey, of Palmyra, MO; step-great-granddaughter, Alexis Rogers, of Raytown, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Nolan Cheffey, of Junction City, KS, Annabel Spayde, of Conway, AR, Henry Spayde, of Conway, AR, Rylie Rogers, of Raytown, MO, Noel Cheffey, of Junction City, KS, Marlie Rogers, of Raytown, MO, Phoeix Spayde, of Nixa, MO, and Leonidas Rogers, of Raytown, MO.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lyman Mooney; and a sister, Lelia Benningfield.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, at First United Methodist Church Celebration Center, with the Rev. Jim Downing officiating.

A reception and time of visitation will be held immediately following the service.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, MO, on Friday, September 21.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or Heifer International.
