Jerry W. Doogs, 66, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 at University Hospital in Columbia.

He was born December 22, 1955, in Sedalia, a son of William V. and Martha Jo (Klein) Doogs.

Jerry attended Walnut School, a country school in rural Sedalia, until it closed and transferred to Cole Camp school. During the summer after his junior year in high school, he had the opportunity for adventure and worked the wheat harvest, traveling several states throughout the Midwest. He returned home after the new school year had begun. With his parent’s blessing, he left school under the condition he would get a job. He went to work as a truck driver for Chaney’s Seed House. Later, his dad helped him land a position at Olin Conductors (which became Alcan Cable and is now General Cable.) Jerry began his career as a machine operator June 22, 1976, was a loyal and dedicated employee, and retired in 2007.

Jerry enjoyed making people laugh. He was a friend to many and took many people under his wing.

In his younger years, he had a wide range of hobbies including floating down the local creeks with friends after a heavy rain, cars for drag racing and demolition derby, and horses. He traveled the rodeo circuit and competed in bronco riding. He attended bull riding school in Texas, and decided it wasn’t for him.

In his later years, he enjoyed watching TV and going to the movies.

Jerry had a soft spot in his heart for children. He loved his niece, Megan and all his great-nieces and great-nephews. He will be remembered as a wonderful son, brother and uncle that was always there to help his family.
