Joan Daisy Burkey, 75, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born July 26, 1946, in St. Louis, daughter of Lawrence and Lena Mae (Boly) Gills.
On March 1, 1977, in Sedalia, she married John R. Burkey, who preceded her in death on October 17, 2007.
Joan had a B.S. degree in Chemistry and worked as a chemist for Alcolac and Rhone Poulenc. Later she worked as a clerk for McLaughlin Brothers Furniture Store. She enjoyed writing, science fiction, crafts, needlepoint, drawing and loved music. Joan will be remembered as funny, empathetic, creative, laid back and congenial. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include a son, Jon J. Burkey; a brother, Maurice Gills; and two sisters, Julia Osbourn and Lora Berry.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Gills; and a sister, Martha Phillips.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Sedalia Animal Shelter.
