Elouise Joann Curtis, 82, of Sedalia, formerly of La Monte, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia, MO.

She was born on March 22, 1936 in Malta Bend, MO, the daughter of William and Lydia (Traugott) Haase.

On April 13, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia, she was united in marriage to Paul Hubert Curtis, who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1987.

Joann was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sedalia, she worked at Smith-Cotton High School from 1976 to 1988 as a janitor.  She also was very active in her church with many activities.  She was a Den Mother for Scouts, loved picking up walnuts and picking them out.  Joann enjoyed cooking from scratch for the family and being a family caregiver.

Survivors include four sons, Michael Curtis (Chris) of Unionville, MO, David Curtis (Renee) of La Monte, MO, Robert Curtis of Green Ridge, MO, Mark Curtis (Teri) of Green Ridge, MO; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to both parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy Curtis; two brothers, Leonard Haase, James Haase and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sedalia, with Pastor Tessone and Pastor Hoehne officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.

Burial will be in the La Monte Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Curtis, Troy Curtis, Cody Curtis, Chad Curtis, Steven Curtis and Stacy Curtis.

Honorary Bearers will be Eric Schneider, Amy Schneider, Trisha Curtis, Kim Lewis, April Curtis, Scott & Cindy Birdwell, Jim Binder and Betty Brandt.

Memorial contributions can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church for the Radio Ministry or Crossroads Hospice.
