Joann Risner

JoAnn Risner, 85, of Otterville, formerly of Florence, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Sunday, October 23, 2022, after her battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born August 13, 1937, in Sedalia, daughter of Excel and Carmen (Carver) Bealer.

JoAnn was known to her friends and family as being full of life. Never a frown, her smile would brighten anyone’s day. She loved spending time with her mother in the garden, canning, baking, and taking care of her animals. She was always dancing and loved an opportunity for a photo. Her love of traveling and adventure carried into her adult life by living vicariously through books and novels. She enjoyed learning new technology while still appreciating the old-fashioned ways of life. Her strength and tenacity through all life’s struggles was admirable. She was a fighter until the end. The memories shared by her friends and family are full of happiness, joy and living her life to the fullest.

Surviving are four children, Randy Benedict of Columbia, Britt Benedict (Vahna) of Southlake, TX, Rhonda Colbert of Otterville, and Brenda Lemens of Otterville; fifteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Danny Risner; and three sons-in-law, Danny Lemens, Brian Lemens and Joseph Colbert.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Mt. Herman Cemetery near Sedalia, with Rev. Russ Slocum officiating.

Casket bearers will be Damian Lemens, Aaron Benedict, Josh Baker, Corey Benedict, Daylan Hammond, Cody Lemens, Conner Benedict and Sammy Risner.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.
