Joe Jarrett Scroggins, Jr., 79, of Warsaw, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at his home.

He was born August 27, 1937, in Benton, TN, the son of Joe Scroggins Sr. and Maggie Bridges Scroggins.

On February 3, 1990, in Warsaw, he was married to Peggy L. Thompson.

Joe served eight years in the Navy Reserves. He worked for 27 years for the Army Corps of Engineers, serving his last 22 years at the Truman Dam.

Joe was best known for his musical and magic abilities, especially his Chet Atkins guitar-style picking. He played professionally throughout his life and is known in the area for playing on Jack’s Country Music Show, Osage Jamboree and Truman Lake Opry. He was talented in many ways and shared his talents by helping people however he could. As a result, he made many friends over the years. He will be remembered for his easy-going way and his love of family. Joe made a plan early in life and was proud of the success he achieved by working hard toward his goals. He had faith in God and was a member of First Baptist Church of Warsaw, serving as the sound man for 15 years.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy, of the home; two sons, Joseph Lane Scroggins and wife Julianne, of Ringgold, GA, and Anthony Wayne Scroggins and wife Debbie, of Centerton, AR; six grandchildren, Timothy and wife Catrina, Jerileeza, Austin and wife Madison, Joshlynne and fiancé Adam, Faith and Jennianne; and one great-grandson, Corvo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Deanne Pickering.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at First Baptist Church of Warsaw.

Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery in Warsaw.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.
