John Ashpey Couchman, 77, of Green Ridge, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
He was born on June 21, 1939, in Marion, IN, the son of Charles and Minnie Jane Goodpasture Couchman, who preceded him in death.
John was united in marriage to Thelma Ethel Hollingsworth on June 18, 1957, in Platte City. She passed away September 28, 2015.
John owned his own construction business for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, cutting wood and mowing the lawn. Doing “hard work” was what he was known for. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
He is survived by four children, John C. Couchman (Peggy), of Beaman, Marshall Couchman (Jackie), of Sedalia, Robin Dietz, of the home, and James Couchman, of Green Ridge; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David Couchman, and a sister, Agnes White, both of Gas City, IN.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frank Couchman; and eight siblings.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Jeff Page officiating.
Pallbearers will be James Couchman, John Couchman, Sr., Marshall Couchman, Alex Esser, Jamie Couchman and John Couchman, Jr.
Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at Heckart Funeral Home.
