John Charles Couchman, 64, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born September 7, 1958, in Smithville, son of John A. Couchman, Sr. and Thelma (Hollingsworth) Couchman.
On July 25, 1980, in Corpus Christy, TX, he was united in marriage to Peggy (Whitehead), who preceded him in death on August 10, 2021.
John worked at Waterloo as a forklift driver, forklift operator and welder. He was a member of Real Life Church.
John loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and family gatherings. He was the rock of the family. He cared about others and was always willing to help.
Surviving are eight children, Marcus Coppock (Lisa), of Muncie, IN, John Couchman, Jr. (Darlene), of Sedalia, Freedom Esser (Ernie), of Sedalia, Junior Duncan, of Sedalia, Calvin Duncan, of Kansas City, MO, Mitchell Duncan, of Sedalia, Kathy Duncan, of Sedalia; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marshall and Jamie Couchman; and sister, Robin Dietz.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Couchman; and his grandmother, Mary Hollingsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Heckart Funeral Home with Rev. Logan Patrick officiating.
Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, at Heckart Funeral Home.
