John Frederick Witte, 79, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 in Sedalia.
He was born March 19, 1942, in Sedalia, a son of Gus Edward and Nona Mae (Atkeson) Witte. On October 3, 1964, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia, he was united in marriage to Martha A. Heimsoth by Rev. Walter Strickert.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was baptized at the church on March 3, 1943 and confirmed on May 23, 1965 by Rev. Strickert.
He was a small engine mechanic and owner/operator of John’s Small Engine. He enjoyed watching the purple martins in the houses he built behind his shop.
He enjoyed refinishing furniture and had rebuilt several cars. He enjoyed racing motorcycles and hill climbing.
John was a hardworking and caring man with a quiet, but steady presence.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, and a son, Johnny, both of Sedalia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James; three sisters, Mary Lou Yeager, Juanita Balko and Dorothy Luckie.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeremy Freeman officiating.
Casket bearers will be Alex Heimsoth, Ted Twyman, Larry Yeager, Rick Yeager, Brett Kuhns and Steve Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be Vance Kuhns and Dennis Davis.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
