John A. (Jack) McMurdo, 95, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, March 21, at E.W. Thompson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was the son of Sarah Aleatha Wallington and John Olia McMurdo.
On January 29, 1943 he married Joan Webber who preceded him in death May 5, 2004. They had one son, Mike.
Jack entered the U.S. Army in 1942 serving in the Philippines during WW II. Upon returning to Sedalia after the war he worked for a short time at Hughie’s Cigar store. He worked 15 years for Fowler Insurance, and then was appointed as Director of Pettis County License Bureau. Jack was elected as Pettis County Assessor and held that office until retiring. He enjoyed his family, friends, quail hunting, fishing and seldom missed auctions. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan!
Other family members preceding him in death include a brother Tom McMurdo, sisters, Bonnie Rains, Emma Rynard, Betty Bergman and infant Mary Margaret.
Survivors include a son Mike and wife Shirley, of Kimberling City, Missouri; grandchildren, Shannon, wife Sheranne McMurdo, of Kimberling City, Brian McMurdo, wife Mandy, of Kimberling City, and granddaughter Angie, husband Scott McDonald, of Nixa, Missouri, seven great-grandchildren, Beth, Ross, Demi, Miranda, Reece, Tyler and Faith, brother Jim, wife Mary McMurdo, Monroe City, Missouri and sister, Janice Cornwall of Warsaw. Jack loved his family and enjoyed his nieces and nephews that survive and a special neighbor Anna Lee Bail.
A celebration of life service will be Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Parkview Christian Church with Pastor Rodney Brown at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be made to Parkview Christian Church.
