John Snyder

John Albert Snyder, 77, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at his home.

He was born December 22, 1942 in Hampton, VA, to Mahlon Ray and Peggy Opal (Herod) Snyder.  On March 2, 1963 in Houston, TX, he married Marilyn Ann Nichols who survives of the home.

John graduated from John H. Reagan High School in Houston, TX in 1960.  He later went on to graduate in 1982 from the University of Central Missouri with a degree in Criminal Justice.  John honorably served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.  He had a 33 year career in law enforcement serving with the LaMonte Police Department, Pettis County Sheriff’s Department and retiring from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as a Park Ranger where he oversaw the Katy Trail and the Mark Twain Lake area.

John was a lifelong member of the NRA, Crystal Springs Big Buck Club, and the Sedalia Rod & Gun Club.  He was a factory authorized Glock Master Armorer and a certified scuba diver since 1969.  John enjoyed guns, model trains, fly fishing, bird and deer hunting and military aviation.  He will be remembered for being like an encyclopedia in anything of the things he found interesting.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn of 57 years, two daughters, Sandra Denise McClure of Mountain View, MO, Karen Renee Snyder Chambers (James) of Aubrey, TX; two sons, Richard Raymond Snyder (Jennifer) of Columbia, MO, John Michael Snyder (Lindsay) of Warrensburg, MO; six grandchildren, Rebecca Brianne McClure, Zachary Daniel McClure (Rachel), Sebastian James Chambers, Piper Nichols Chambers, Colton Paul Snyder and Zander Keith Snyder; one brother, Joseph Laurens Snyder (Mary) of New Braunfels, TX.

In addition to both of his parents he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Mary Edith Norris Nichols Blue and Ray Estes Nichols; one son-in-law, Byron Dee McClure.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2020 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2020 followed by military honors provided by the Sedalia VFW Post 2591 and the United States Air Force.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or the Canon Cancer Center.
