Juanita Pate

Juanita Doris Pate, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, February 8

th

, 2018, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

She was born November 13, 1930, in Benton County, daughter of Pearl L. Ulmer and Elsy (Davis) Ulmer. She had four siblings, Lawrence Lee Ulmer (Alice), of Warrensburg, Stanley Ulmer (Mary Catherine), of Sedalia, and was preceded in death by her brother, Clay Ulmer, and sister, Leona Rose.

She was married to William Lewis Pate. They were married 45 years til the time of his death, April 21

st

, 1993. In love and with love they raised four children and one grandson together. Surviving are two children, Rita Siegel, of Lee’s Summit, Mark Pate, of Sedalia, and grandson, Christopher Crouch. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Pate, and daughter, Connie Potter.

Juanita loved her four children and joyfully welcomed her 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family into her arms with love.  Juanita did not have just friends, they were family to her, as many people referred to her as mom or grandma. She retired from Safeway after working there for over thirty years, greeting everyone she met with a smile. Although she met so many people her one true passion was her family. She loved taking care of them, especially cooking for them. She enjoyed getting up and going for drives just to see the sights. She loved her dog Scooter, who preceded her in death. Juanita also enjoyed gardening and going to family reunions to celebrate. She volunteered at a variety of places including church food banks and was a bell ringer for The Salvation Army.

She carried unimaginable strength with her every day. Our lives have all been enriched and we are grateful for the life and love of this truly great woman, Juanita Doris Pate.
