Juanita Southard

Juanita Southard, 76, of Smithton, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.

She was born September 16, 1939, in War, WV, daughter of Reese and Eunice Mae Christian Barnes. On October 11, 1957, in War, WV, she married Paul Southard, who survives of the home.

Juanita’s greatest joy was her family. She loved being “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, flowers and gardening, and had been a member of the Smithton Garden Club.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Vanita Southard, of Sedalia; a son, Paul Southard, Jr. (Jennifer), of Smithton; five grandchildren, Tami Wilfong, Dustin Southard (Jessica), Jonathan Southard, Morgan Southard and Dillon Southard; two step-grandchildren, Kylee Walje and Tylor Washington; seven great-grandchildren, Madisyn Sprinkle, Cierra Sprinkle, Brooklyn Southard, Natalie Howard, Kimberlyn Southard, Gavin Howard and Bailey Southard; two brothers, Arthur Barnes, of Roanoke, VA, and Bill Barnes of War, WV; two sisters, Pauline Stinson, of Iaeger, WV, and Geraldine Barnes, of War, WV; three nieces and one nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Barnes.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jason Veale officiating.

Casket bearers will be grandchildren. Honorary bearers will be great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, at Heckart Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Canon Cancer Center at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
