Julia Rudisill

Julie, “Nana” Rudisill, age 102, passed peacefully in her sleep at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center, March 15, 2018. She will be missed by her dear neighbors, friends, and family.

She is fondly remembered for her love of “chatting about Ohio”, working in her backyard with her flowers, and feeding any and all birds within flying distance. Julia had a full life as homemaker and too, in her time, had worked as a housekeeper/nanny and later as a department store clerk at C.W. Flower Co.

Nana was born, January 27, 1916, Irene Juliana Veronica Wargo, to immigrant Hungarian Austrian parents, Jim and Mary (Kuhar), in Huron, Ohio. She was fiercely proud of her parents, siblings, and Hungarian heritage. One of 11 children, she is survived by numerous nephews and nieces in the Huron-Sandusky-Norwalk Ohio area.

In 1940, Julia married Robert Cooney Rudisill Sr. of Sandusky Ohio. Rudisill was a JC Penny manager and their married life was spent traveling thru the Great Lakes States as his job dictated. They settled finally in Sedalia, in 1962, where they later established the family business, Rudisill Fabrics. Mr. Rudisill died in 1998.

Julie leaves behind three children: Robert Rudisill Jr., and Judith Rudisill of Sedalia, and Martha Straka (Harold) of Bonita Springs, Fl. Five grandchildren: Robert Rudisill III of Sedalia; Jim Rudisill (Sarah) of Fairview, NC; Elisabeth Nix, Pleasanton, TX; Julie Shrewsbury, Austin, TX; and Ben Straka, (Jamie) Kingsport, TN. She had six great grandchildren she referred to as her jewels: Elijah and Leah Rudisill, Ethan and Jack Shrewsbury, Josephine and Colvin Straka.

Her life was enriched and, indeed in later years, greatly enhanced by the care and attentions of loving friends: George and Sherry Stevens, Georgia Clark, Roberta Bradley Carol Schlosselman, Megan Farnham and the outstanding staff of Sylvia Thompson Residence Center and the staff of Crossroads Hospice.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and was kindly acknowledged on her birthday and holidays thru the years by the priests and Grade School Children. Nana loved to bake Hungarian pastries, work puzzles and Word Searches, and, in later years, became a great TV fan of Dancing with the Stars and of Frasier reruns. She was an avid reader and was teased by family for the newspaper minutiae she found that no one else even noticed.

Nana chose cremation with no memorial service. She wanted friends and family to remember her in the good times they had with one another during her life. A favorite Nana adage was “everyday above ground was a good day.” Family and friends make our days.

Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Church or Crossroads Hospice in care of Heckart Funeral Home, 903 S. Ohio, Sedalia, MO 65301.
