Karen Ann Steele, 78, of Sedalia, met her Savior Friday, December 2, 2022 while living at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center. She was born July 14, 1944, at Bothwell Hospital, Sedalia, daughter of the late Ralph L. and Martha Ann (Satterwhite) Steele.
Karen attended Sedalia Public Schools, Mark Twain School from Kindergarten through Seventh grade, and then attended Smith-Cotton Junior/Senior High School, graduating in 1962. Upon graduation, she began her work career in the Pettis County School Superintendent’s office from 1962 to 1973 and the went to work as secretary to the Manager of the Sedalia Water Department for over 36 years. She retired in July 2009.
Karen was a life-long member at First Christian Church in Sedalia and enjoyed teaching primary aged Sunday School. She was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF), DWM (Disciples Women’s Ministry) and served several years with Sedalia Christian Women United.
In the business world, she joined the Sedalia Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW), now Sedalia Business Women, in 1965. She served as chairperson of numerous committees and attended many State conventions. Karen was honored as “Woman of the Year” in 1989-1990.
In her personal life, she enjoyed crafting: making scrapbooks, crocheting and designing sweatshirts. She made and decorated many cakes for birthdays, weddings and wedding anniversaries for friends, family and co-workers.
She faithfully met the needs of others by frequently providing transportation, and also gave generously to charitable organizations that met the physical needs of those in the community.
Survivors include a sister, Judith Steele, of Sedalia and many cousins.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at First Christian Church with Rev. Dr. Chad McMullin officiating.
Visitation will be 10 am until service time at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
