Kathleen Ann “Kathie” McGaugh, née Gardiner, formerly Bennett, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia, MO, due to complications from COPD. Kathie was born on January 31, 1956, in Warwick, Rhode Island, to Olive Lois Gardiner and Edwin Francis Gardiner, II.
Kathie graduated from Toll Gate High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, in 1974. She married Lanty McGaugh on October 20, 2000, in Bartlesville, OK. Kathie’s last job was with the Census Bureau, where she had the opportunity to meet many people and engage in conversations, one of her favorite pastimes.
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sedalia, Kathie cherished her time with her children and grandchildren, relishing her role as "Gramma” or “Gramma Peanut”. She had a passion for watching NASCAR, and game shows, and enjoyed camping, and birdwatching. Kathie was particularly fond of owls and loved telling stories, reading, singing karaoke at Cruisers in Sedalia. She had unique culinary preferences, such as burnt hotdogs and butter-only pancakes and French toast.
Kathie was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Lanty McGaugh, and her children, twins Stephen and Theresa, born and passed away in April 1981.
She is survived by her five children: From her first marriage of 25 years to Gary S. Bennett, Sr., Jessica S. Bennett of Sedalia, Gary S. Bennett, Jr. (Reita) of Sedalia, Kimberly A. Bennett of O'Fallon, IL, and to her 2nd marriage of 23 years to Lanty McGaugh, Celine M. McGaugh (Barry) of Sedalia, and step-daughter, Shannon McGaugh (Traves Fogg) of Eldon; three brothers, Edwin (Yogi) F. Gardiner III of Warwick, RI, and John Gardiner of West Warwick, RI; one sister, Diane Gardiner of Londonderry, VT; and six grandchildren, Chloe, Jacob, Cordelia, Maria, Kylo, and Elias.
Kathie was known for her kindness, sweetness, and love for her family. She will be missed by those who loved her.
Visitation will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sedalia, MO at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 3, 2024 with graveside services at 3:00 pm at Crown Hill Cemetery, gate 5; followed by a 4:00 pm memorial service at the church.
