Katie E. Miller

Katie E. (Mast) Miller, 88, of Leon, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her son’s home in La Monte, Missouri, on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

She was born October 5, 1933, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Enos and Polly (Yoder) Mast.

Her growing up years were spent in Grantsville, Maryland, before they moved back to Oklahoma in 1950.

She married Daniel Miller on October 26, 1960, in Thomas, Oklahoma. They spent their first months in Hannibal, Missouri, where Daniel was in 1-W service.

In the summer of 1961, they moved to Wellman, Iowa, where they lived until they moved to Leon in 1964.

For six years, she assisted her husband operating Leon Locker, processing meat.

They were blessed with two daughters and three sons. She was a faithful member at Leon Salem Mennonite Church and sacrificially served her family, church, and community.

She enjoyed sewing and gardening. In later years, she spent much of her time embroidering and piecing quilts of which each of her children and grandchildren are recipients. Her last four years were spent out-of-state with her son in Missouri or daughter in Ohio as she experienced declining health.

She will be remembered as an example of trust in God and patient acceptance of His ways, as well as for her sense of humor.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Daniel Miller; children: Irene (John) Miller, of Malta, Ohio, Marlin, of Leon, Jesse (Janice), of La Monte, Missouri, Steve (Martha), of Huntsville, Arkansas, and Miriam (Larry) Loar, of Leon; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Fannie Mast and Emma Bender; and brother, Menno Mast.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Enos and Polly Mast; brothers, Andy Mast and Amos Mast; and daughter-in-law, Sonya Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2022, at Salem Mennonite Church in Leon, Iowa, where visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2022. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation in La Monte, Missouri, will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022, at the La Monte Mennonite School.
