Kenneth Howard “Yaya” O’Dell, 76, of Sedalia, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at his home.
He was born April 7, 1943 in Kansas City, MO, a son of Hallie, Sr. and Jewell (Garrett) O’Dell. On June 2, 1967 in Clinton, MO, he married Wilma J. Smith who survives of the home.
Kenneth honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed collecting baseball and western memorabilia. Kenneth loved to read and watch as many Green Ridge sporting events as possible.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, four brothers, Hallie O’Dell, Jr. (Mable) of Concordia, Alvin O’Dell (Evelyn) of Warrensburg, Terry O’Dell (Margaret) of Clinton and Gale O’Dell (Joan) of La Monte; one sister Joyce Asbury (Roy) of Warrensburg; one sister-in-law, JoAnn O’Dell.
In addition to both of his parents he was preceded in death by one infant son, Kevin Lee O’Dell; brothers, James, Roger, Clarence, Oscar Lee, Larry Dean and one infant brother, one sister, Donna Lou.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019 at the Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, with Dr. Rev. Greg Morrow officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the funeral home.
Casket bearers will be the VFW Post 2591. Honorary bearers will be G.L. O’Dell, Kenny O’Dell, Rick O’Dell, Larry Crawford, Justin McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Rusty Whitington, Mike O’Dell, Leroy O’Dell, Danny O’Dell and Ronnie O’Dell.
Burial with full military honors will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville with honors provided by VFW Post 2591.
