Kerry Dee Ray

Kerry Dee Ray, 66, of Raytown, MO passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.

He was born on August 28, 1957 in Harrisonville, MO, son of Bernie Dee and Glessie Pauline (Dawson) Ray.

Kerry raised his children Heather and Joshua in Independence MO with their mother. He later married Paula Plost on April 1, 2000 and they made a home in Raytown, MO.

He was a skilled painter and spent many years in service with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. He also enjoyed a career later in his life as a table games dealer in several of the riverboat casinos in Kansas City.

Kerry loved his Kansas City Chiefs and was fortunate to celebrate their Superbowl win at Superbowl LIV in Miami, FL with his father and brother John. He was known as “Pa-Pa,” Grandpa Kerry, and Grandpa Ray to his many grand-wee-ones, who he loved to spoil with treats and outings.

Survivors include his wife Paula, four children, Heather Ray (Chuck Fredrickson) of Milwaukie, OR, Joshua Ray (Holly) of Waterloo, IL, Aaron Harrison (Brooke) of Raymore, MO, and Zane Marshall of Kansas City, MO; mother, Glessie Ray of Bates City, MO; three siblings, Jonathan Ray of Kansas City, MO, Nona Box of Sedalia, MO, Carolyn Langkamp (Robert) of Buckner, MO; nine grandchildren, Arreona Ray, Hailey Ray, Hunter Ray, Lewis Fredrickson, Liam Harrison, Jude Harrison, Mia Harrison, Roman Marshall, and Kashton Marshall.

Kerry was preceded in death by his father Bernie.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Bethel Campground Cemetery near Edwards, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House.
