Lafayette Gordon “Gordy” “Bo” Bohling, 84, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at Fair View Nursing Home.
He was born August 18, 1940, in Sedalia, son of the late Lafayette Henry and Josephine (Shepherd) Bohling. In 1977, he married Norma Diane Baker, who preceded him in death on July 6, 2017.
Gordy served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years, dedicating his expertise as a flight engineer and instructor in electrical systems. His service included deployments during the Vietnam War, and a portion of his career was spent in the frigid yet awe-inspiring landscape of Antarctica.
Gordy found joy in woodworking, yard work and spending time with family.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Lemos, of Toledo, OH; two stepsons, Ken Barnes (Amy) and Chris Barnes (Sharon); stepdaughter-in-law, Toni Barnes; sister-in-law, Elaine Ramsey; one grandson, David McGovern; many step grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including Holly Thomlinson (George) and Jenni Ramey (Bob), of Sedalia.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Barnes; and sisters, Doris Dawn Shook, Theda Jo Mitchell, Eleanor Gail Trent, and Phyllis Ann Lindenmeyer.
Funeral service will be 2:30 pm Friday, October 25, 2024 at Heckart Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 2:00 pm until service time.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the US Navy.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sedalia Animal Shelter in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
