Larry Charles Callis, 80, of Hughesville, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
He was born June 8, 1941, in Sedalia, son of Charles and Mary (Boyer) Callis.
On June 25, 1978, in Sedalia, he married JoAnn (Benson), who preceded him in death on July 28, 2020.
Larry was a graduate of Hughesville High School and earned a chemistry degree from Central Missouri State University. He was an Eagle Scout.
He started playing in bands at the age of fourteen. He played bass guitar. Family, farming and music were Larry’s passions. He also loved traveling.
In his younger years, Larry worked in banking. He was also a farmer, retiring in 2003. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Sedalia Lodge 236 AF & AM.
Surviving are a daughter, Shelley Jungen of Springfield; four step-daughters, Tamra Crouch of Warrensburg, Teri Moore of Boonville, Susan Holmes of Tomball, TX, and Carolyn Dawley of Spanish Fort, AL; three stepsons, Jerald “Eric” Pendell of Kansas City, Roger Austin of Hughesville, and Bret Austin of Edinboro, PA; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Callis of Winchester, VA; and two sisters, Linda Semler of Sedalia, and Rebecca Mixson of Aiken, SC.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Bethel United Methodist Church, with Pastor Wesley Wingfield officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department, Bethel United Methodist Church, or Cancer Perks.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
