Larry J. Bass, 78, of Sedalia, MO passed away peacefully at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS on June 25, 2018.

He was born October 31, 1939 at La Monte, MO to Elmer and Zetta (Duffer) Bass.  He grew up on a farm south of Smithton, attended Black Jack country school and graduated from Smithton High School in 1957.  In his early working years, he was involved in the grocery business, working at Bing’s grocery store.  Later in his career, he worked for the State of Missouri as a Lottery sales representative until his retirement in 2004.

His hobbies included fishing and hunting.  He loved gardening and spending time outdoors.  One of his favorite things was an annual trip to Roaring River state park with all of his family.

His family was the joy of his life, he took pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren grow into adulthood with successful careers.  He always was sharing his pride of his children with everyone he met.

On October 16, 1960, he married Joyce Kroeger at Goodwill Chapel United Methodist Church.  They spent most of their married years in Sedalia, MO.  The past five years, they wintered in Tarpon Springs, FL.

Larry is survived by his wife Joyce of Sedalia, MO; his daughter Kimberly Bernard (Peter) of Palm Harbor, FL; son Troy Bass of West Plains, MO, and daughter Kristen Filby (David) of Kansas City, MO, four grandchildren; Riley Bass of Vancouver, WA, Brody Bass of West Plains, MO, Collin Bernard of Bellair, FL, and Emily Bernard of Palm Harbor, FL; a brother, Paul Bass (Pam) of Florence, MO; many nieces, nephews, and his dog Whistles.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 7-8:30pm.  Funeral services will be Friday, June 29, 2018, 11am at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO.  Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery.

The family requests memorials to American Heart Association or Goodwill Chapel United Methodist Church.
