Laura LaVerne Heitmeyer, 81, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Cedarhurst Senior Living.
She was born May 15, 1939, in Mexico, MO, a daughter of the late Glen and Helen (Brown) Mutti. On May 27, 1962, in Paris, MO, she married Robert Lyle “Bob” Heitmeyer, who survives.
Laura was a 1957 graduate of Paris High School in Paris, MO. She received her bachelors and masters degrees from MU and was a lifelong MU fan. She began her teaching career in Monroe City, and taught in many schools throughout Missouri including 13 years at Broadway Presbyterian Pre-School in Sedalia, touching the lives of many students.
She was a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church and Sorosis. She enjoyed reading.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she is survived by three children, James Robert Heitmeyer (Maile), of Hawaii, Richard Heitmeyer (Missie), of Sedalia, and Sallie Koenig (Grant), of San Diego, CA; two sisters, Susan Woodard and Martha Ryan; and five grandchildren, Benjamin Koenig, Piper Koenig, Nathaniel Koenig, Layla Heitmeyer and Lexi Heitmeyer.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Heckart Funeral Home with Reverend Rob Hughes officiating. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
