Laura V. McCurdy, 92, of Hughesville, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.
She was born February 12, 1924, in La Monte, daughter of Guy and Goldie Shull Mahin. On March 20, 1943, in Washington, D.C. she was married to Robert Elmore McCurdy, who preceded her in death on October 24, 2009.
Mrs. McCurdy and her husband operated a farm. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed bowling. She also did photo retouching. Laura was an avid sports fan, her favorites being Mizzou, St. Louis Cardinals and State Fair Roadrunners.
She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was involved in the Christian Women’s Group. She was also a member of D.A.R. and the Women’s Bowling Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice Kay Thomas (Kenneth), of Sedalia; a son, Alan McCurdy (Mary), of Hughesville; four grandchildren, Kevin Pahlow (Leslie), Julie Casteel (Jeremy), Michael McCurdy (Audrey), and Kasey Jo Tucker (Gary); six great-grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Pullen; and a brother, Arthur Mahin.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Mahin.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 6, at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Chad McMullin officiating.
Casket bearers will be Kevin Pahlow, Alex Pahlow, Jacob Etter, Mike McCurdy, John Shull, Tom Fairfax and Gary Tucker.
Honorary bearers will be Bob Shackles, Bob Wasson, Tommy Mahin, Jason Knox, Gary Eck and Wendell Zimmerman.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First Christian Church or Show-Me Christian Youth Home.
