Lena Gills
Lena Laverne Gills, 89, of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Four Seasons Living Center.
She was born March 18, 1927, in Cairo, IL, daughter of Ralph and Myrtle (Atwell) Boly.
On September 21, 1945, in St. Louis, MO, she was united in marriage to Lawrence S. Gills Sr., who preceded her in death on September 10, 1970.
Lena enjoyed puzzle books and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her kids and grandkids came first. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are five children: Joan Burkey, Martha Phillips (Russ), Julia Osbourn, Daniel Gills, and Lora Berry (Darryl), all of Sedalia; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Boly, of Spring Lake, NC; and a sister, Shirley Compton, of DeSoto, MO.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Gills Jr.; two sisters, Olivette and Sylvia; and two sons-in-law, John Burkey and Don Osbourn.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heckart Funeral Home.
