Leo L. Lewis, 90, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015, at Four Seasons Living Center.
He was born August 17, 1924, in Sedalia, son of Sherman E. and Dortha Evelyn Lutgen Lewis. In 1947, he married Dorothy Helen Reed, who died in 1982. In 1984, he married Mary Lou Davis, who died in 1998. In 2000, Leo returned to Sedalia and was reunited after 56 years with Janice Naser and they have been inseparable friends since.
Leo accepted Jesus as his personal Savior at the age of nine. He was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church for 73 years, where he also served as a deacon. He had also been a member of Village Baptist Church for eight years while living in Oklahoma.
Leo was a 1942 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He served honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Free Mason.
Leo worked for the United States Postal Service, delivering mail to the many patrons whom he considered his friends, worthy of receiving their mail on time.
He is survived by a sister, Alma B. Schupp; a sister-in-law, Marion Reed; four nieces, Mildred Ann Gaston, Sherry Cobb, Debra McCarty, and Sandra Brinton; nine nephews, Russell Schupp, Roger Schupp, Warren Lewis, Jr., Dennis Lewis, Gale Lewis, Samuel Reed, Kenneth Reed, Lynn Reed and Russell Reed; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews; his companion, Janice Naser; Janice’s son, Joseph Naser; and many good friends.
In addition to his parents, wife Dorothy, and wife Mary Lou, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Velma Frances Lewis; two brothers, Warren and Ernie Lewis; two sisters-in-law, Mary “Sue” Lewis, and Mary Lou “Lucy” Lewis; and two brothers-in-law, Dorsey Schupp and Artie Reed.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Heckart Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marlin Brown officiating.
Casket bearers will be Charles Bahner, Jerry Laudenberger, David Bergman Sr., Russ Schupp, Don Morton and Don McMullin.
Honorary bearers will be Hank Laramie, C.H. Williams, Ted Williams, David Bergman Jr., Charles Palmer, Steve Acklin, Russell Dedrick, Olan Boatcher, Joseph Naser, and Wayne Stackhouse.
Burial with military honors will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Heckart Funeral Home.
