Lizzabelle P. Vansel

Lizzabelle Phoebe Vansel, 93, of La Monte, passed away Monday, August 1, 2022 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.

She was born April 7, 1929, in Derby, VT, a daughter of the late Charles William and Gertrude Laura (Davio) Garrett. On December 17, 1945, she married Jesse Franklin Vansel who preceded her in death on October 18, 1991.

Lizzabelle was a woman of strong faith and an active member of Abundant Harvest Worship Center.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to her family. She was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed baking breads, pies and cakes from scratch. She was an excellent seamstress and lovingly sewed everything by hand. She was feisty and spunky, cutting wood until she was well into her 70s.

Lizzabelle enjoyed fishing and camping. She always had a stash of root beer and her cabinet stocked with snacks to share. She will be remembered as a strong and amazing mom and along with her husband, Jesse, raised a big family and always had lots of love to go around.

Survivors include four children, Carolyn Weir, of Land o’ Lakes, FL, Richard Vansel (Betty), of Smithton, Gail Holtcamp (Calvin, Sr.), of Pensacola, FL, and Gertrude Fletcher, of La Monte; four siblings, Hazel Moore, of Smithton, Emma Collister, of Warsaw, Katherine Dietzman, of Sedalia, and Billy Garrett (Patricia), of Sedalia; daughter-in-law, Linda Vansel, of Sedalia; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by six children, Joyce Vansel, Sharon Phillips, Jesse Vansel, Jr., Paul Vansel, David Vansel and Timothy Vansel; seven siblings, Henry Garrett, Ruby Esser, Charles Garrett, Albert Garrett, Bobby Paul Garrett, Margaruitte Kinyon Vansel and Bonita Joann Ryan; and one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home with Pastors Tony and Merry Kroeger officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Fletcher, Justin Bryan, Mark Vansel, Mike Vansel, Danny Bryan and Logan Davis.

Burial will be in Union-Williams Cemetery near Cole Camp.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Abundant Harvest Worship Center and Open Door Ministries in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
