Lloyd M. McDowell, 91, of Sedalia, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp.
He was born February 28, 1925, in Camden County, MO, the son of George W. and Grace Mansfield McDowell.
Mr. McDowell served in the Regimental Headquarters, 289th Regiment, 75th Division during World War II. His division served in three campaigns, though he was not directly involved in combat. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Central Missouri State University and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Missouri. He then taught high school business in Festus. He then joined the U.S. State Department Foreign Service division, traveling throughout the world, including South America, Central America and Europe, specifically Paris, Jerusalem and Tripoli. His job was to deliver secret documents to consulates and embassies. He then continued teaching business in high schools in Belton and others for a number of years.
Surviving is a sister, Hazel A. Shivers, of Cole Camp; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Lucas.
There will be no services or visitation. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Kaiser, MO.
