Loraine “Pattie” Thorp, age 93, of Sedalia, MO, passed from this life Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Loving Arms Memory Care.

She was born June 5, 1931, in St. Louis, MO, daughter of J. Charles and Ida (Schmidt) Altwater.

She grew up and attended school in Jefferson City, MO. She was a graduate of Jefferson City High School and a graduate of Marinello School of Hairdressing. She worked many years in Jefferson City and St. Louis, where she met and married her husband of 37 years.

She and William V. Thorp were united in marriage in Ladue, MO, on November 5, 1960. They moved to Sedalia as newlyweds and spent their entire married life in Sedalia. She owned and operated Artistic Coiffures for several years and retired from Waunita’s Beauty Salon. 

She was very active in the Eastern Star, and Calvary Baptist Church, where she held many positions. She loved her church family and spent many hours with them. She was a past member of the Elks Ladies, Animal Fair (a small animal rescue group), RSVP, Be Forever Young, and the Senior Center. She enjoyed being with people, playing cards, and traveling.

Surviving are two sons, W. Charles Thorp (Delores), of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Edward Thorp (LeeAnn), of Olathe, KS; two grandchildren, Lukas Thorp and Devin Squires (Paden); three great-grandchildren; a brother, Lynn Stacy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Shotola and Mary Ann Gutwein; and step-brothers, Charles Stacy and Dr. Bill Stacy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to St. Croix Hospice or Heartland Hospice, in care of Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.
