Malva Leona Gehlken, 96, of Sedalia, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She was born December 28, 1919, in Moniteau County, daughter of Clarence and Cordelia Wood Stahl. In 1939, she married Carrol Sanders, who preceded her in death in 1972. In 1973, she married Edward Gehlken, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Gehlken was a member of Parkview Christian Church and Jolly Elders. She worked as an LPN at various places. She enjoyed playing cards and games, fishing, and was a talented seamstress.
Surviving are a son, Jerry Sanders (Nga), of Otterville; two daughters, Joyce Lilly (Richard), of Sedalia, and June Fowler (E.H.), of Florence; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Stahl.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Malva Joan, in infancy; a grandson-in-law, Steve McAdams; a great-grandson, Nathan Maxwell; and three brothers, Grover, George and Norman Stahl.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Jeff Page officiating.
Casket bearers will be David Lilly, Jay Fowler, Doug Freeman, Ken Skouby, Eric Lilly and Jeff Nolting. Honorary bearers will be Malva’s great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Otterville.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 24, at Heckart Funeral Home.
