Marcella Rose (Goodwin) Butler, 92, of Sedalia, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Fair View Health Care Center.
She was born May 31, 1932, in Higginsville, a daughter of the late David and Dorothy (Powell) Goodwin. On May 16, 1953 she married Adolphus Butler, who preceded her in death on December 31, 2012.
Marcella was raised in Knob Noster, and she remained a lifelong member of the Knob Noster United Methodist Church. She graduated from CC Hubbard High School in 1950. Following her marriage to Adolphus, she embraced the life of a military wife, traveling the world with him until his retirement in 1968. They then settled in Sedalia, where they raised their family. Marcella contributed to her community through her work as a production worker at Swifts and later at Tyson Foods, from which she retired. A woman of many talents, she was a phenomenal cook, enjoyed sewing and gardening, and was known for her warm personality and easy conversation. Though determined and set in her ways, Marcella was a familiar and beloved figure in her neighborhood, often seen taking her walks with a distinctive walking stick."
Survivors include two sons, Adolphus Butler, Jr. (Margaret), of White Plains, NY, and Rodney Butler (DaLissa) of Sedalia; brother, Donald Goodwin, of Knob Noster; son in-law, Tony Dabney, of Hopkinsville, KY; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise Dabney; and seven brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, March 21, 2025 at Heckart Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at United Pentecostal Church (Church on the Move), 2805 S Ohio Ave, Sedalia, with Rev. Steve Palmer officiating.
Pallbearers will be Toney Dabney, Jr., Derrick Butler, Jermaine Dabney, Shaun Moore, Lamont Carruthers, and Tony Dabney, Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be Deidra Carruthers, Shala Butler, Aleshia Moore, the great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Heckart Funeral Home.
