Marjorie Jane (Mumbower) Hornbostel, 59, of Country Club, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, in St. Joseph, after a long battle with neurodegenerative disease, which gradually sapped her strength, but could never defeat her spirit.
She was born July 6, 1956, in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of Glenn and Marion (Baldwin) Mumbower, and lived nearly her entire life in the Sedalia area. She was a life-long Lutheran, and a member of Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church from birth until 2011. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in 1974.
She was married to Paul Robin Curry in 1974, and this marriage produced three children: twin sons Paul and Jason, and daughter Renee.
On July 9, 1988 she was married to Phillip Hornbostel, who survives of the home. With that marriage she welcomed into her family step-children Charles and Jennifer. Later this marriage produced a daughter Anna.
In 1982 she graduated from State Fair Community College with an associate degree in nursing, and worked in many areas of nursing thereafter, including Bothwell Regional Health Center, Drs. Van Dyke and Stockwood, State Fair Community College Nursing School as a clinical instructor, Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center (as D.O.N.), and Surgical Services of Sedalia, where she was the bariatric surgery coordinator from 2008 until 2011. Her family was always her life, and her home was filled with love, laughter, and many memories of parties, barbecues, and holiday festivities that made her home the lodestone for an entire extended family. In addition to her family, she leaves many cherished friends in Sedalia.
She is predeceased by both her parents, as well as one infant brother, and one infant granddaughter, Taryn J. Curry. In addition to her husband, surviving family members include all her children, Paul (Dana) of Sedalia, Jason (Jackie) of Sedalia, Renee of Country Club, Charles of Leesburg, VA, Jennifer (Brett Emo) of Oakville, MO, and Anna of the home, as well as eleven grandchildren, who were the joy of her final years.
She is also survived by her sister Rosemary (Ken Hagen) of Kansas City, her brother Michael of Kansas City, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church in Sedalia at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Roger Lenander officiating. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016, at Heckart Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite worship place, or music charity, in Marge’s name.
Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.
