Martha Lu Young
Martha Lu Young, 79, of Otterville, passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 9, 2017, at her home.
She was born January 19, 1937, in Bethany, MO, the only child of Glenn C. and Lurine (Wear) Nelson, who preceded her in death.
Martha Lu grew up in Otterville and was a 1955 graduate of Otterville High School.
On October 12, 1957, in Kansas City, she was united in marriage to James A. Young. To this union three children were born. She was always a devoted mother and grandmother, attending countless ball games and activities.
Martha Lu attended one year of nurse’s training. She worked for Bixler Gas Company for 42 years as a secretary and bookkeeper.
In the Otterville community, she was involved in the Happy Homemakers Club, the Garden Club, I.O.O.F. Cemetery and the street fair.
She was a lifelong member of the Otterville Presbyterian Church, where she was baptized as a child. She taught Sunday School for many years and served as a deacon and elder. Recently, she was attending Bethel Assembly in Sedalia.
Her hobbies included watching Sprint car racing, sewing, fishing, collecting bells, flowers and bird watching. She enjoyed making things for people with her embroidery machine. She will always be remembered for her popcorn balls at Halloween.

birthday celebration for her this coming Sunday.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, survivors include three children: Rob Young (Lisa), of Sedalia, David Young (Karen), of Warrensburg, and Aletha Odneal (Danny Green), of Boonville; twelve grandchildren: Candy, Brian, Dusty, Jillian, Rachel, Lacie, Michael, Amie, Travis, Mallory, Christopher and Brooke; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 12, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Jeff Page officiating.
Casket bearers will be grandsons Tyler Arnold, Jalal Nabiyev, Mike Young, Dusty Young, Brian Randall, and Evan Thomas.
Honorary bearers will be David Bixler, Jerry Page, Connie Hofstetter, and Jimmy and Kathy Page.
Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Otterville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, at Heckart Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Unlimited Opportunities, Inc. in honor of her grandson, Christopher.
