Marvin E. Harrelson, Sr.

Marvin E. Harrelson Sr., 92, of Sedalia, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

He was born August 3, 1925, in Fallett, TX, son of Rich and Otha (Elam) Harrelson.

On February 4, 1948, he married Vonda Cunningham in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1981.

He then in 1989 married Ruth Horn in Smithton, who preceded him in death in 2011.

He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Howards and Clarkson Construction Companies from 1957 until retiring in 1992.

As a farmer in his younger years he raised and showed registered quarter horses. Later he began raising beef cattle which he did until his death. He served his country honorably in the Army during World War II.

He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. He had a passion for raising cattle, taking care of his cats and his dog, Spot. He always was there for and loved his family, step family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He always lent a helping hand to his friends, neighbors, and anyone who needed one. He will be remembered as the great guy he was and will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Survivors include his son, Marvin E. Harrelson Jr. and wife Susan of Sedalia; two daughters, Barbara and husband Dean Sallee of Sedalia, and Donna King of Sedalia; two stepdaughters, Diana Durrill and Linda Blankenship; stepson, Curtus Ray Warner; five grandchildren: two grandsons, Zack King and Josh Sallee, three granddaughters, Leslie Harrelson, Dana (Evan) Schrock, Rachel Hayward (Darrayl); five great granddaughters, Lauren, Emily, and Kinley King, and Haley and Sara Schrock; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer (Jared) Page; and one step great-granddaughter, Jessica Todd.

Including his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a grandson, William Joseph Buchholz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Chaplain Bill Douglas officiating. The Patriot Guard Riders will provide honors.

Casket bearers will be Harley Harrelson, Bob Harrelson, Jimmy Cunningham, Donald Cunningham, William Cunningham and Mark Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens, with full military honors by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice.
