Mary Frances Hopper, 86 of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Sylvia Thompson Residential Center.
She was born July 26, 1933 in Beaman, a daughter of William Phillip and Orlena Snapp Hayes. On Feb. 16, 1952 in Sedalia, MO she was united in marriage to Raymond Louis Hopper who preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2006.
Mary was baptized at Memorial Baptist Church on September 20, 1944. She was a 1951 graduate of Hughesville High School. In her early years she was a homemaker and a caretaker. After her children were in school she worked at Interstate Studios. She retired from Bothwell Regional Hospital after 26 years as a Housekeeper. She was an active member at Calvary Baptist Church and loved working with the Kitchen Committee. Over the years she taught and assisted with Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, and worked in the nursery. Her passion was her yard and flowers and she mowed her own grass until the age of 83. She was as an awesome cook and hosted large family dinners on a weekly basis for family and friends into her eighties. Families grew and larger tables were required to serve all to a sit down meal in thanksgiving fashion every week. She loved quilting, embroidery, and cross stitching. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always felt blessed to be able to share in their lives.
Surviving are a Daughter, Valarie Swanson (Keith) of Cole Camp and a son Phillip Hopper (Kathy) of Sedalia; daughter in law Vicki Webb (Robert); a brother William Lee Hayes of Holden; seven grandchildren Meghan Zimmerschied (Jason), Doug Swanson (Katie), Lance Hopper (Danielle), Ryan Hopper (Teah), Rachel Nevils (Matt), Jessica Young (Joe), and Ashley Webb; ten great grandchildren and a very special friend Joe Kabler.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Clifford Wade Hopper and Timothy Ray Hopper; and one brother Elwood Phillip Hayes.
The family is mourning the loss of their Mother and Grandmother, but celebrating her long life of loving, caring, and teaching of life’s lessons. She will be truly missed and the memories of her will be cherished by the ones she loved and everyone she touched forever.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Satterwhite officiating.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons Doug Swanson, Lance Hopper, Jason Zimmerschied, Joe Young, Wyatt and Blake Zimmerschied.
Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at the funeral home.
