Mary Lou Holliday, 76, of Sedalia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Friday, April 19, 2024, at Bothwell Regional Health Center.
She was born August 12, 1947, in Chicago Heights, IL, daughter of Arthur and Marcella (Jordan) Davis.
On August 15, 1970, in Boonville, MO, she married James Leonard Holliday, who survives of the home.
Mary earned a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University and taught three years in her early adulthood. She and Jim then started a family, and she decided not to return to teaching. Later she worked as a med tech and nurse aide, retiring from The Essex. Mary was very compassionate and loving to those in her care and had a strong work ethic.
Mary was a devoted Christian and occasionally attended Katy Park Baptist Church with Jim, who is a member. She was a kind, loving, and generous person, who loved giving to various charities and to her church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, watching and feeding birds and squirrels, camping, and fishing, but most of all, being with her family. Mary enjoyed having pets and especially loved her cats.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, Jim, survivors include four daughters, Amy Soles (Glenn), of Lincoln, Laura Arnold (Christopher), of Blue Springs, Jane Taylor (Danny), of Sedalia, and Melissa Wilson (Danny), of Smithton; eight grandchildren, Levi, Gretchen, Devin, Nathan, Jaclyn, Dalton, Drew and Tyler; and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Ezra, Lylah and Samuel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stillborn son, Darcy Alan; and four siblings, Jack Davis, Bonnie Springs, Allen Davis and Linda Velloff.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Katy Park Baptist Church, with Rev. Jon Church officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Burial will be at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to Bothwell Foundation or Sedalia Animal Shelter.
Arrangements are in the care of Heckart Funeral Home.
