Mary Ruth Hughes, 76, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at her home.
She was born June 22, 1937, in Marshall, daughter of Paul and Mary Ellen Carroll McLaughlin. On October 27, 1956, in Nelson, she was married to James Robert “Bob” Hughes, who survives of the home.
Mrs. Hughes enjoyed anything outdoors: fishing, bike riding, swimming, taking walks, and especially gardening. She was a good, loving, and compassionate person. To know her was to love her. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, survivors include a daughter, Cindy Frisbie (Brad), of Lee’s Summit; four grandchildren: Brent Frisbie, Dane Frisbie(Chrisma), Tabitha Hughes and Brandon Hughes; two great-grandchildren, Lucas Frisbie and Jaiden Johnson; two sisters, Betty Dawson, of Sedalia, and Kay MacLaughlin (Skip), of Blackwater; a brother, Paul McLaughlin (Donna), of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Dale Hughes; and a brother, Jim McLaughlin.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, January 25, at Heckart Funeral Home. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.
