Melvin Otto Leicher, 82, of Hughesville, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, at his home.
He was born November 29, 1936, in Hughesville, son of Otto William and Clara (Kraft) Leicher.
On June 26, 1955, in Sedalia, he married Ruth Ann (Todd), who preceded him in death on May 4, 2017.
Melvin was a lifelong farmer. In his spare time, he enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with his buddies. Over the years, he and Ruth Ann enjoyed traveling and spending time with their friends. He loved his family, especially his grandkids. He took great pleasure in helping the grandkids grow and sell sweet corn each summer. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three children, Debbie Hoskins (Glen), of Hughesville, David Leicher (Sherry Lynne), of Nelson, and Daren Leicher (Lori), of Hughesville; twelve grandchildren, Jared, Justin, Jacob, Jessica, Jonathan, Jordan, MacKenzie, Krista, Guy, Sonya, Truman and Colt; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Hirst (Dean), of Florence, OR; and sister-in-law, Grace Leicher, of Sedalia.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Leicher; and a sister, Norma Jean Chapp.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2019, at Heckart Funeral Home, with Pastor Wesley Wingfield officiating.
Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Jared Hoskins, Justin Hoskins, Jacob Hoskins, Jordan Leicher, Truman Leicher, Colt Leicher and MacKenzie Leicher.
Honorary bearers will be Everett and Jan Blackburn, and Frances Runge.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2019, at Heckart Funeral Home.
