Michael Lee Wilson, 71, of California, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

He was born in Sedalia, April 20, 1950, son of John and Shirley (Morton) Wilson. Mike lived in Sedalia until March 2013 when he went to live with his younger sister, Deanna Carson, in California, MO.

Growing up, Mike attended the Crippled Children’s Center, State Training Center for Individuals with Disabilities, Sheltered Workshop, Ewing Vocational Center from which he retired after 43 years; and Moniteau County SB 40 Activity Center. He was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church and attended Woodcrest Church in Jefferson City.

Mike loved his family, his special cat, Pistol, and his friends at the Activity Center. He had a positive attitude, sense of humor, and quick wit. Mike spent his days outside blowing bubbles or throwing sticks. He also enjoyed watching movies and listening to his music.

Surviving are four sisters, Terry Bohon (Stanley), Debbie Kettle (Barry), Tina Thomas (Dwayne) and Deanna Carson (Matt); and one brother, John Wilson (Missy). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Carmen Kraus (Will), Kristy Kurtz (Todd), Chad Wimer (Leslie), Stacie Wimer, Trenton Thomas (Tera), Savannah Sommers (Eric), Kayley Anna Walker (Sam), Carlye Bell (Chad), Mattie Carson, Whitney Wilson, Nicolas Wilson (Rachel); and three great nieces and four great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John William “Bill” and Shirley Ann Wilson; a niece, Mandy Thomas; and grandparents, Porter and Beulah Morton and Grace Wilson.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022 at Heckart Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Chad Wimer, Trenton Thomas, Will Kraus, Todd Kurtz, Tylor Kraus, Tannor Kraus, Nicolas Wilson, Gage Carson and Eric Sommers. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Bohon, Barry Kettle, Dwayne Thomas, Matt Carson and John Yoest.

Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Moniteau County SB40 Activity Center, California, MO, in care of Heckart Funeral Home.
