In Loving Memory…
Mildred Bernice Bary, 98, of Sedalia, passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Fair View Nursing Home in Sedalia.
She was born the fifth of eight children to Rollie James and Melvina Elizabeth “Bessie” (Brownfield) Thomas on July 11, 1920 in Smithton, MO. She married John W. Wise on January 11, 1943 and from this union two children were born: John W. Wise, Jr. and Barbara Jean (Wise) Mittenburg. She later married George Moseley, who preceded her in death. Then she married Almon Bary.
Bernice was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 50 years and most recently attended New Hope Baptist Church and was a member in good standing of 46 years of the Osage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved the Lord and felt it was her calling to go to nursing homes on Sundays’ to speak Gods word, sing and minister to the elderly. They loved to see her colorful clothes and bows in her hair. She never knew a stranger and always had a beautiful smile on her face. Being a country girl, she loved nature. She loved her flowers and big garden and her big maple tree which would be red, orange and yellow right now. Later in life she took painting classes at the college and discovered she loved it. She sold Avon for 29 years. Bernice loved to dance and went to senior dances and square dances, even participating in the band sometimes.
Survivors include one son, John W. Wise, Jr. (Dyana) of Liberty, SC; one daughter, Barbara Jean Mittenburg (Mike) of Green Ridge, MO; six grandchildren, Cassie Wise, William Wise, Krystal Wise, Bethan Watson, Teresa Mitchell and Alan Dunham; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Dillon; nine great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Mrs. Lucille Davis of Sedalia, MO, Ralph Thomas (Darlene) of Smithton, MO, Otis Thomas (Lois) of Sedalia, MO, and Zeb Thomas (Valmer) of La Monte, MO.
In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by siblings: Grace Bremer, Melva Ruth Campbell and Barbara Ann Rayl.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, with Rev. Dr. Chad McMullin officiating.
Casket bearers will be Trent Mitchell, Karis Thomas, Dwayne Thomas, Scotty Birdwell, Lynn Rayl and William Wise.
Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.
