Nella “Jean” Edwards of Sedalia, MO, passed away on September 16, 2022, with her children by her side. She was born in Murray, KY in July of 1931, to Raymond and Hazel Workman. On December 30, 1951, she married her husband of 70 years, James V “Jim” Edwards, who preceded her in death in February of this year. Jean had been living with Alzheimer’s disease for the last several years and was a resident of Sylvia G Thompson Residence Center for the past two years where she received wonderful care.
Jean worked in various retail establishments and banks in Kentucky, Indiana and Sedalia, MO where she and Jim lived, including work as a teller at Third National Bank and an office clerk for Homaker’s Furniture. Jean sang in the choir and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church of Sedalia.
Her family was her pride and joy. She cared for them deeply and was always there for them. Jean loved to travel with friends, which they did for many years including spending winters in Arcadia, FL. They made friends from all over the country. She spent many weekends traveling to gospel concerts with Jim. Jean’s eye for color was incredible, and her sense of style was admirable. Jean never left the house without looking like she was going to church. She was also an avid dog lover. Her home was warm and inviting where her favorite thing was to have her family together for huge meals—she could pull together a meal quickly, and it was always delicious.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Edwards (Nancy) of Sedalia, MO; daughter Jeanna Holmes (Mark) of Springfield, MO; grandchildren Angela Danner (Cody) of Waverly, MO; Jaclyn Boatright (Matt) of Ozark, MO; Michael Edwards (Candy) of Pleasant Hill, MO; Jonathan Holmes (Amber) of Ozark, MO; and eleven great grandchildren.
