Norma Jean (Walz) Eck, 92, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 31, 2024.
Norma Jean was born October 17, 1931 to Albert and Georgia (Edwards) Walz in Sedalia. She attended Whittier School and graduated from Smith Cotton High School.
In 1949 she married Gilbert Ray Eck and were soon to be the parents of two sons, Gary Wayne Eck and Steven Ray Eck.
Norma started working for Montgomery Wards in the toy department. Later, the business moved to 4th and Osage where she became part of the office personnel. She remained with Montgomery Wards until her retirement in 1982 after 32 years.
Norma’s love for her family was her strength by evidence of the many pictures she had displayed throughout the house, not to mention the many shoeboxes full of family adventures and memories. She was a great cook but her specialty was homemade noodles and hand cranked homemade ice cream. Norma became the CEO of the Eck family with 5 generations when her great-great grandson and daughter were born.
Norma Jean loved the outdoors from her yard and flowers to fighting rainbow trout on her fly rod, with her best friend by her side. They had so many good times together.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert, a daughter Deana and a son, Steven Eck.
Celebration of Life services will be held at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia on the 14th of September 2024. Visitation at 10:00 and service at 11:00. Burial will be in Highland Sacred Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Sedalia Animal Shelter or Heartland Hospice.
