Norma Jean Blessing Best passed away peacefully on December 6, 2019 at her home in Overland Park, KS. Norma courageously fought a five year battle with cancer. She died with the same grace and dignity with which she lived her life.
Norma was born on February 25, 1927 in Bethany, MO daughter of Oran Keith (OK) and Essie Blessing, joining her brothers Harold and Edwin.
On April 17, 1949 she married Robert Best, who preceded her in death in 2004. Norma and Robert raised their family in Bethany, St. Charles, Higginsville, Hannibal and Sedalia, MO before retiring to Mesa, AZ.
Mom’s devotion to her family continued throughout her life and she made many friends along the way.
She began quilting as a little girl on the farm and continued the craft for over 85 years, producing hundreds of beautiful works of art.
Bridge was another lifelong activity she enjoyed with friends, and she was an excellent player.
She was sometimes affectionately known as “Betty Crocker” for her amazing homestyle cooking skills.
Norma is survived by her four children, Steven (Jill) Best, Marsha (Gary) Pirtle, Mike (Annie) Best, and Scott (Angie) Best. Her ten grandchildren will miss “grandma” dearly. Norma was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia.
A private family graveside service will be held.
