Norman Lee Griswold, age 88, of Overland Park, KS died peacefully on January 4, 2024. Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO will be directing a private, family memorial service at a later date.
He was born February 2, 1936 in Sedalia, MO, a son of Myron Griswold and Edith Fowler Griswold. On June 1, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Louise Waters. Together they enjoyed over 66 years of marriage.
Mr. Griswold graduated from Smith-Cotton High School, Sedalia, MO in 1954; and attended Central Missouri State College, now University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO where he graduated with a BA degree in 1958, a BS degree in 1962 and a Master’s degree in 1964.
He served on active duty in the United States Army 1958-1960 with assignments at: Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Fort Chaffee, AR; Fort Sill, OK; and, Fort Lewis, WA. He also was assigned to the headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division, in Korea and in Japan. Subsequent to active duty in the military, he was a world history, American history, and geography teacher. He was appointed a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, DC, serving in Washington, DC; Indianapolis, IN; Milwaukee, WI; and Kansas City, MO. He served as Senior Resident Agent in Green Bay, WI. He retired from the FBI in 1986. He also served as an investigative consultant for the FSLIC, FDIC, and RTC. He resumed employment with the FBI as a Special Investigator until 2009.
Mr. Griswold was a member of the First Baptist Church, Sedalia, MO and after moving to Overland Park attended online at Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, KS.
Norm, also known by many as Storm or by his family as Papa, will be remembered for his love of family, golf, traveling, fishing, music, McDonalds, donuts and ice cream. His was a life well lived and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons, Stuart (Joy), Steven (Tracie) and Scott and a daughter, Suzanne Carlson (Jeff); eight grandchildren, Lee Smith (Kyle), Lynne Turner (Brad), Sydney Taylor (Eric), Jack Griswold, Thomas Carlson (Kaylee), Emma Carlson, Samantha Griswold, and Calvin Griswold; five great grandchildren, Kylee, Lily and Claire Smith, James (JT) and Cate Turner; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Waters.
