Oliver Wayne “O.W.” Mangels
Oliver Wayne “O.W.” Mangels, 95, of Sedalia, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Warsaw Health and Rehab.
He was born October 31, 1922, in Wichita, KS, the son of Irvin and Ruby (Hicklin) Mangels.
On December 25, 1942, in Wichita, he was united in marriage to Mildred Irene (Larimer) Mangels, who preceded him in death on April 19, 2013.
O.W. was baptized at age twelve. He was a 1940 graduate of Wilmore Rural High School in Wilmore, KS. In 1944, he joined the Army Air Corps, serving during World War II as a nose gunner with the 595
th
Signal Air Warning Battalion, reaching the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1946. He retired from Standard Oil Company, where he was the warehouse manager.
He and Mildred traveled in their motor home to Arizona to spend winters each year. They retired to Lake of the Ozarks and enjoyed crappie fishing and cherished times spent with their children and grandchildren there. They enjoyed the many family get-togethers at holidays and other occasions.
Surviving are his son, Ronald Mangels, and his wife, Rose, of Lake of the Ozarks; three grandchildren, Jeff, Angela and Gina Mangels; a great-grandson, Justin Mangels; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Roger Mangels; and sister, Mozetta Schoenecker.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Lee officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 2591.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Heckart Funeral Home.
