Patricia Lee O’Brien (nee Morrow), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the age of 92. Cherished daughter of the late Glenn C. Morrow and Lena C. Shelley; devoted mother of Kathryn “Kate” G. (Pat Gouzien) O’Brien; loving grandmother of Justin (Cathy) Heimburger, Jordan Heimburger, Andrew (Janelle) Heimburger, and Kelsey (Billy) Double; treasured great-grandmother of Colby, Peyton, Macey, Ava Heimburger, and Kingston Double; dear sister of Sarah (the late Vance) Gilless and the late Shelley (Mac) Harding; bonus family, Jan Bond, Jim Vezeau, and daughter Joslin Vezeau.

Patricia graduated from Murray State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Music Education in 1948. She was initiated into the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity in 1946, receiving the Sword of Honor in 1948, serving as a Province Officer 1993-’97, receiving the Rose of Honor in 1997, and serving as Director of the Memorial Library housed at the University of Michigan 1998-2000, in addition to many years as the treasurer of the Flint Alumnae Chapter.

In 1973, her advocacy contributed to the founding of the Missouri chapter of the National Education Association, serving as its founding president ’73-’74. In 2014 she received the Missouri NEA Horace Mann Award for outstanding personal contributions to public education and was recognized with gratitude in a formal resolution by the Missouri House of Representatives the same year.

Pat was a member of St Charles Presbyterian Church for eight years, active in their book club and her own card ministry to members of the congregation, and as a Sister of the St Charles Chapter JY Philanthropic Educational Organization for three years, serving on the Counseling Committee, Entertainment Committee.

Patricia was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Baue Cave Springs, 3950 West Clay, 63301.

A second visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, MO.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Green Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Dianna Marcum officiating.

Memorials may be made in Patricia’s name to Missouri NEA Retired Cheer Fund – 1810 East Elm, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101 or Sigma Alpha IOTA- SAI Philanthropies Inc. in memory of Patricia O’Brien- One Tunnel Road Ashville, N.C. 28805.
